Orientation Guide

Community & Social Networks

  • Make Connections: At university you will make important career and social connections that will last your entire life. Start building these relationships now.
  • Suggest that members of the tutorial go for coffee after the class or agree to meet regularly.
  • Attend exhibits, film screenings or lectures with a classmate and have a chat about it after.
  • Learn co-operatively: a brochure titled, Collaborative Learning: Making Social Time into Study Time, available from the Learning Skills Unit offers useful tips and practical suggestions for collaborative learning.
  • Discover the student community in the School through societies and other social networks, such as the Melbourne University Classics and Archaeology Student's Society (MUCAAS), an informal group of Classics students and enthusiasts who attempt to ally a love of all things BC with some good honest fun. This generally takes the form of movie nights (movies like Troy, Hercules Returns, and Quo Vadis? are favourites), dramatic readings, trivia nights, staged performances, and pub nights. The society is open to all Classics undergraduates, as well as anyone who has an interest in Classics or Archaeology.
