Orientation Guide
Checklist: Adjusting to your First Semester
- Attend Orientation Week. Orientation week is the week previous to the start of semester. For information on events for that week, check CCA News and the Faculty of Arts website.
- Check key dates on the University’s Academic Calendar.
- Refer to information specifically orientated to First Year provided by the Faculty of Arts.
- Familiarize yourself with the school’s buildings.
- Enrol in your subjects.
- Sign Up for Tutorials.
- Locate the notice boards. They are inside the front door on the first floor in the Elisabeth Murdoch Building. Look at this board frequently for course, subject, tutorial sign-up, and other important information.
- Note the names and contact details of your lecturers and tutors see: The Centre for Classics & Archaeology Staff.
- Check the times and locations of your lectures and tutorials. These are available
through the SIS Timetable.
- Set Up your Email Account. Email is an essential means of communication for an AHCCA student. A great deal of important information and announcements are communicated via email. To set up your University of Melbourne email account, visit the IT Guide for Students.
- Review the aims of your courses. As soon as you receive your subject guides, familiarize yourself thoroughly with the aims and objectives of the subjects you've chosen. Stay ahead of the subject schedule, read ahead and be proactive in asking questions about assignments and assessments.
- Attend Lectures & Tutorials. You can read or download some tips from Lectures and Tutorials - Getting the Most from Them (pdf) to assist you.
- Access the Webraft or LMS used in your subject.
- Plan for Assessment. Note all due dates for essays and assignments and begin thinking about topics of interest now even if the due date is several months away. Review the Essay Guide in this Undergraduate section.
