About Classics & Archaeology
The study of classics and archaeology provides insight and understanding into contemporary society by delving into past human culture and activities as they are revealed through ancient language, literature, philosophy, art, architecture, treasure, tombs, and other intellectual and material culture.
The Centre's subjects cover such topics as archaeology; religious, political and social life in ancient societies; classical literature and mythology; art and architecture, Ancient Greek and Latin. Travel subjects also provide unique opportunities to experience the history and interpretation of the ancient world and its artefacts for students and members of the community.
An articulated structure of courses offer future and current undergraduate students the chance to specialise in a particular area or pursue broader interests. Postgraduate coursework and research courses provide opportunities to build on these interests and the knowledge gained in an area.
A number of fieldwork opportunities are provided in which students gain direct and practical project experience and are able to experience study through travel. A single subject can also be taken by students and members of the public through the Community Access Program.
Through a combination of research, coursework and fieldwork, a degree in Classics and Archaeology provides a competitive edge in any career. Graduates from the centre currently work in every state in Australia and in several countries around the world.
