Multimedia Projects

The Centre has been involved in the following multimedia projects that showcase innovative uses of multimedia technologies for teaching, scholarship, research, and learning.

Winged Sandals

Type of Project: Interactive Website

Interactive games, animations, and educational material offer a compelling opportunity to learn and engage with Greek myth and classical culture. Winged Sandals was awarded the Gold World Medal in the Education category of the prestigious New York Festivals 2004 Interactive Awards. In 2004, Winged Sandals was also awarded the top Australian new media accolade of the Best of the Best at the AIMIA Awards, the AIMIA award for Best e-learning or Reference and prizes at the SXSWeb Media Festival and the FAlsh Forward Festival Awards.

Collaborators

Winged Sandals is a co-production between the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The University of Melbourne and The Centre for Classics and Archaeology.

The Virtual Museum

Type of Project: Online Database

Commencing in 1996, this project developed a comprehensive database catalogue of 2400 antiquities in the Classics & Archaeology Collection at the Ian Potter Museum of Art.

The Classics and Archaeology Virtual Museum is a collaborative project with the Ian Potter Museum of Art, the Multimedia Education Unit, and ArtsIT

CD Rom: Greek Vases from the Classics & Archaeology Collection

Type of Project: CD-Rom

CD-Rom associated with the exhibition of Greek Vases that took place in July 2001 at the Ian Potter Museum of Art. Purchase the CD-ROM.

Ancient Greek House Chatroom

Type of Project: Teaching & Learning Resource

Students enroled in Classical Mythology have access to the Ancient Greek House Chatroom, an explorable, 3-d reconstruction of two fifth century B.C. Athenian houses.
