Caucasus, the isthmus between the Black Sea and the Caspian, has always stood as a pre-eminent frontier. Within this complex landscape lies the land of Georgia, which the ancient Greeks considered the edge of the known world. This project aims to examine the concept of borderlands by evaluating the dramatic transformation of society, settlement and landscape from the 2nd millennium BC to the 5th century AD in the region of Mtskheta.
