Future Postgraduates

Local Applicants

Local students are students who are Australian or New Zealand citizens, an Australian permanent resident, or who hold a permanent humanitarian visa.

Applications for Graduate and Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas, Coursework Masters, and Research Masters Degrees

Applications from local students for postgraduate degrees except PhD are administered by the Faculty of Arts. They provide information on how and when to apply as well as application deadlines and forms.

Application for PhD Degree

Applications from local students for PhD degrees are administered by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).

Fees for Graduate and Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas, Coursework Masters, and Research Masters Degrees

Information on postgraduate coursework fess (graduate and postgraduate certificates and diplomas and masters by coursework degrees) is provided by the Faculty of Arts. For some courses Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) may be available. Selection into a CSP is based on academic merit. The University of Melbourne Tuition Fees explains the courses and subsidies for Commonwealth Supported Places and the fees for postgraduate courses for those students responsible for the full cost of the enrolment.

Information on applications & fees for prospective PhD students is provided by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).

International Applicants

International students are not Australian or New Zealand citizens, an Australian permanent resident or do not hold a permanent humanitarian visa. The difference between international and local students is also explained in the university's What Type of Student Am I?

Applications

Applications for all postgraduate degrees is done through the University of Melbourne International Centre. On their page you’ll find useful information on courses and programs, entry requirements, language requirements, how to apply, important deadlines, Visas, housing options, international student support services, and contacting the Centre for more information.

Course and career information, English language proficiency requirements, additional international student support services, and information on accommodation and life in Melbourne can be found in the International Student section of the Faculty of Arts website.

Graduate and Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas, coursework Masters and research Masters degrees are administered by the Faculty of Arts. PhDs are administered by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS). 

Fees

The International Centre provides information on international student tuition fees. Melbourne Scholarships grants a range of prestigious awards for high achieving international students to undertake postgraduate study.

Study Abroad and Exchange Programs

You may want to enrich your academic experience or expose yourself to Australian culture for a short time instead of taking an entire course. If so, the University of Melbourne’s Study Abroad and Exchange Programs give you the opportunity to spend 6-12 months in Australia.
