CommunityThe Centre for Classics & Archaeology has many connections with diverse communities inside the University and beyond. We invite the public and researchers to participate in a variety of events including the vigorous public lecture program, the many conferences and symposia held within the School of Art History, Cinema, Classics & Archaeology, and the Ancient World Seminar Series that is organised by the Centre and focuses on research in classics and archaeology. The Centre also maintains a strong connection to schools and VCE students by participating in the The University of Melbourne Extension Program, which gives high achieving year 12 students the opportunity to study latin. We also offer the Classics School Program to assist VCE students in preparation for their exams. The Centre provides many opportunities for the public to study classics and archaeology. Members of the public can undertake a single subject in Classics, archaeology, Latin or Ancient Greek through the Community Access Program. This form of study also means that members of the broader community can undertakea travel subject that will usually involve field work and valuable hands-on experience. Members of the general public, high school teachers and secondary and tertiary students often participate in our Summer School in the classics. The Centre is also proud of its many alumni and maintains connections with them through The Courtyard, the alumni and friends newsletter of The School of Art History, Cinema, Classics and Archaeology. |
