AccommodationBelow are a number of accommodation options that we recommend for the conference, as they offer good value and facilities, close to the University of Melbourne. They are listed from the most expensive to the cheapest, and range from five star hotels to hostels. Contact details are provided so that you can make your own booking. All prices are quoted in Australian dollars. Once you have made your booking, please let us know the details of your arrival and departure dates, where you are staying and the contact number if you know it. We will maintain a database in case we need to contact you for any reason. Marriott HotelCorner Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets Approximately $200-300 per night, breakfast from $26. This hotel offers luxury accommodation near Melbourne’s CBD, approximately 20 minutes walk from the university, or ten minutes by tram. The Marriott offers all the facilities and services that you would expect from a five star hotel. Rydges Hotel701 Swanston St $145/night, $160 with hot buffet breakfast. This hotel is less than five minutes walk from the University, and offers excellent accommodation. To receive the rate of $145/night, specify when booking that you are attending a conference at the University of Melbourne. Hotel Y – YWCA489 Elizabeth St $138/night for a single room. This hotel is 20 minutes walk from the university or ten minutes by tram. It offers very comfortable accommodation, including internet access, telephone, television, refrigerator and tea and coffee-making facilities. The Travel-Inn HotelCorner Grattan and Drummond Streets $120/night This four-star hotel offers high-quality accommodation only five minutes walk from the university, and right next to Melbourne’s famous Lygon St (‘Little Italy’), with its renowned Italian restaurants. Rooms have a queen-size bed (or twin beds), en-suite, TV, telephone, tea and coffee-making facilities, refrigerator and internet-access port. Vibe Hotel Carlton441 Royal Parade $115/night, $135 including breakfast This is a four star hotel opposite the lovely Princes Park, and approximately 20 minutes walk from the university (or a five minute tram ride). Graduate House220 Leicester Street $100/night (with en-suite, including breakfast 7 days, and dinner Mon-Fri) The University of Melbourne Graduate Club is situated opposite the university campus, and offers high-quality accommodation and facilities, including breakfast every day, and dinner from Monday to Friday. The standard room in the Graduate Club Building ($100/night) features excellent modern accommodation, including single bed, en suite, telephone and internet-access port, and desk. Double and twin rooms in this building are available for $150/night. The Graduate House Terraces next door offer older-style student accommodation in traditional terrace buildings, with shared bathrooms (men’s and women’s). Single rooms in the terraces are $80/night and include single bed, desk and wardrobe. There are some deluxe single rooms with balcony for $85/night, and double and twin rooms in the terraces are $105 per night. Accommodation at Graduate House is in high demand so it is strongly recommended that you make your booking as early as possible. University College Academic ApartmentsUniversity College, College Crescent $70/night for a small one bedroom apartment ($88/night for two occupants) These apartments offer fully self-contained accommodation but also allow access to all the facilities of University College. The college is in pleasant grounds on the fringe of the university, ten minutes walk from the centre of the campus. Apartments include telephone, internet access, kitchen (kitchenette in the small apartments), refrigerator and television. Three meals a day are provided in the dining hall, with the option of a packed lunch. There are very limited numbers of apartments available, so we advise that you book early. Trinity CollegeThe University of Melbourne $60/night (includes full cooked breakfast) This university college offers accommodation on the edge of the university campus, set in lovely grounds. Rooms are available in a beautiful old building, and include single bed, desk, wardrobe, internet-access port, telephone (internal calls only) and linen and towel. There is access to shared bathrooms and laundry facilities. These are student rooms, but are comfortable and well-equipped. A full cooked breakfast is included. Specify that you are attending for the Close Relations conference and Mark will arrange for conference participants to have rooms close to each other. The Nunnery116 Nicholson St Email: infonnunery@bakpakgroup.com $75-$125 for single and double rooms, $26-$30 for dormitory rooms. All rates including continental breakfast and complimentary tea and coffee. This hostel is set in a historic former nunnery, and offers dormitories and some private rooms. It is a fifteen minute walk from the University, across the beautiful Carlton Gardens. Mebourne Metro YHA78 Howard St, $125 self-catered apartment, $76-88 for single and double rooms, $26-29 for single-sex dormitory rooms. This hostel offers some private rooms and self-catered apartments, and is fifteen minutes walk from the university. Facilities include a fully licensed café, travel agency, 24-hour internet lounge, fully equipped guest self-catering kitchen, launderette, new bicycles for hire, and shared bathrooms The Stork Hotel504 Elizabeth Street $48/night (single) The Stork Hotel offers accommodation half way between the university campus and the city centre, opposite the famous Victoria Markets. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from the university. The Stork is a friendly, family-run hotel with a strong involvement in Melbourne’s theatre and classics scene. Rooms are clean and secure, with bed, desk, refrigerator, shared bathrooms, and access to laundry facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen. |
